Done Deal: West Brom sign Saints striker

West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Jay Rodriguez from fellow Premier League club Southampton.

The deal to to take the former Burnley striker to the Hawthorns is believed to be worth £12m, rising to £15m with add-ons, with the player signing a four-year contract.

Rodriguez moved to St Marys back in 2012 from Burnley, but has since struggled for fitness thanks to a variety of injuries.

Speaking to his new club’s website, Rodriguez said:

“After one or two ‘near misses’ I’m absolutely buzzing to be here,

“The most important thing for any player is to be wanted – and Tony Pulis and Albion have made it clear just how much they have wanted me to join. That’s fantastic for any footballer to hear.

“I’m genuinely delighted to be joining a club of Albion’s stature. The team is full of top players and it’s pretty clear that they are also a great set of lads.”

He scored 35 goals in 126 appearances during his time with the Saints, and becomes the Baggies first signing of the summer.
