Iheanacho, Batshuayi and Defoe: West Ham's transfer target trio

West Ham’s extensive striker search continues into its second summer, with a trio of potential transfer targets.

The Hammers had a long and fairly unsuccessful search for a striker last summer, with a string of big name strikers being linked with a move to the London Stadium.

Carlos Bacca, Alexandre Lacazette, and Michael Batshuayi were all linked, and all stayed at their present clubs or moved elsewhere. They eventually signed Simone Zaza on loan from Juventus, who turned out to be a catastrophic flop, before being released just several months later without scoring a goal.

The Hammers have now turned their attention to this summer’s transfer targets, and are once again targeting adding strikers to their squad.

The London Evening Standard claim that West Ham have added Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho to their summer wish list. The Nigerian striker has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad following the arrival of Brazilian starlet Gabriel Jesus.

Despite having four years left in his contract, Pep Guardiola is prepared to listen to offers for the striker, who is valued at around £20million.

Joining Iheanacho on West Ham’s List of transfer targets is Chelsea’s title winning hero Michu Batshuayi and Sunderlands relegated striker Jermain Defoe.

Despite scoring the goal that sealed the title for Chelsea against West Brom, Batshuayi has found his opportunities at Stamford Bridge difficult to come by, and he could be set for a loan spell away from the Premier League champions to get more game time.

Meanwhile, former West Ham and Tottenham is leaving Sunderland on a free transfer this summer following the Black Cats relegation to the Championship. He is apparently demanding £100,000-a-week and a £6million signing on fee, and is also attracting attention from Bournemouth.
