Manchester United to release Zlatan Ibrahimovic

After just one season at Manchester United, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to be released.

The news will come as no great surprise following his knee injury suffered back in March. The double cruciate ligament injury suffered back in Manchester United’s Europa League quarter final win over Anderlecht means that he will be out for the rest of the year.

Considering the strikers age and hefty wages, the BBC are reporting that United will choose not to trigger a contract extension and will allow him to move on.

Zlatans agent had previously suggested earlier this week that the striker was keen to stay in England and remain at Old Trafford.

Whether anyone will take the financial or footballing risk on signing the 35-year-old is yet to be seen. The Swedish striker currently earns around £350,000-a-week at Old Trafford, the highest in the Premier League.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as well as Torino’s Andrea Belotti.

They have recently pulled out of a deal to sign Antoine Griezmann, while Romelu Lukaku look set to snub a move to Old Trafford to rejoin Chelsea.
